BANQUET is one of Loretta Quinn's recent solo exhibitions.
"Natural and found-objects are combined with cast figures and decorative elements to provide a richly evocative, poetic narrative. Ideas and associations are conjured up in a kind of creative alchemy, base materials transformed into magical, mystical objects which are ripe with suggestion, and heady with promise. The exhibition is a figurative feast. Taking her cue, here and there, from the exuberant style of the Rococo period of the late 1700's, the artist, has revised this influence to contain a number of more contemporary references.
Walking through the exhibition Miss Havisham's wedding banquet comes to mind, in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, forever frozen in time, and festooned with cobwebs and the dust of history. Reminding us that we should all eat, drink, and be merry while we still have time."
